Côte d’Ivoire is planning to build a 60-70-megawatt (MW) capacity biomass power plant running on waste from cocoa pods.
According to Reuters, the plant will enable Côte d’Ivoire to diversify its electricity generation sources.
The project was one of a number of projects to secure grants from the US Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA), the US embassy in Abidjan said.
The biomass power station, the first in the country, will be based in the southern cocoa region of Divo.
The USTDA has earmarked US$996,238 for feasibility studies, the statement said.
